20th VTD – HIGHTLIGHT OF ACHIEVEMENT – ACCC aluminum core composite wire and projects opening up the Vietnamese market

ACCC (aluminium conductor composite core) – is a line of ultra-light, low-loss wire products, using wire winding and composite core technology invented by CTC Global in 2004. With distinctive quality and high economic value. , the ACCC line has opened a revolution in the field of power transmission when it is possible to increase the load capacity of the wire by more than 2 times without changing the weight and load on the pole system. This is a particularly effective solution in both technical and economic terms in projects of renovating power grids and replacing lines.

In 2011, after a period of research and thorough evaluation of the outstanding characteristics of this wire and the characteristics of the Vietnamese market (infrastructure, climate, weather, ..), the team of engineers and The leadership of Vietnam Technical Development Company (VTD) was determined to introduce this line of ACCC lines to the domestic market.

And in 2013, the first project using the ACCC superheater line was successfully implemented by VTD, opening up opportunities to open the market and creating an important turning point for VTD’s sustainable development. This success is extremely proud of VTD’s staff when promptly updating and bringing advanced products in the world to Vietnam quickly.

Up to now, in Vietnam market, there have been more than 1700km of ACCC wires operating on 110-220kV power grid, accounting for nearly 7% of total ACCC wire products worldwide. With this achievement, VTD not only made a big step forward, but also put Vietnam next to developed countries.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of VTD’s establishment, with pride, let’s look back at the first project using ACCC superheated wire products successfully implemented by VTD in Vietnam – the Project of Renovating 220kV Pha Lai – Pho Noi – Hai Duong lines.

Project of Renovating 220kV Pha Lai – Pho Noi – Hai Duong line.

The project to renovate the 220 kV Pha Lai – Pho Noi – Hai Duong line was officially assigned by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVN-NPT) to the Energy Institute (VNL) as the consulting unit and the Company. Power Transmission 1 (PTC1) has been the project implementer since May 2011. Total length of the whole line is 93km, 1 circuit, existing wire type is ACSR 400/51. The goal of the project is that after the renovation, it is possible to increase the load capacity of the line by 2 times and the deflection is within the allowable limit.

At the time of making the investment report for the project, there are 3 types of superheater wire known and considered in Vietnam market: GZTACSR (GAP), INVAR and ACCC. In which, GAP and INVAR wire technology was born in the 70s and 80s of the last century, introduced into Vietnam market since 2007, GAP wire has been used by a number of units such as EVN Hanoi, EVN. HCMC, NPT, etc. The new ACCC cable has been officially introduced to the Vietnamese market by CTC Cable since February 2011.

At that time, very few units in Vietnam knew about this technology, including consulting units. The Vietnamese market has not had enough time to verify the safety of the technology, the life of the wire is only a simulation based on the data, and the software does not have international standards (IEC, ASTM, BS…) specifically applied to the manufacturing and testing of ACCC wires, etc. This is really a big challenge for VTD’s engineers.

However, with the ability to overcome most of the limitations that other superheater wires still exist, such as deflection, loss and installation method, ACCC wire has been transferred by CTC to 9 manufacturers around the world, including manufacturers in China, Indonesia, India, etc.

In order to help customers, investors and consulting units confidently choose ACCC wires, VTD has organized scientific seminars and delegations of senior experts on power transmission to the field. production machines, together with the fact that the ACCC wire works in foreign countries to witness the stability and superiority of the new conductor technology.

In addition, the VTD team, with direct technical support from CTC Global, has proven and convinced the investor that only the ACCC wire is suitable, ensuring the technical requirements. .. of the project when replacing.

And this is when VTD succeeded as the representative of CTC Cable in Vietnam with the contract signed on July 20, 2012. A good start marks an important milestone of VTD in the next conquering journeys.
